About Me

Hi! I'm Alicia, wife and mother of 4 great kids.  I love creating images that are "worth a thousand words" whether it's in the candid moment, or posed portrait.  I hope you enjoy what you see here, because I love sharing it with all of you!

Thanks for stopping by to see what I've captured recently!  To me a picture really is worth a thousand words, although sometimes, there are no words to express how an image might make you feel! I LOVE photography and preserving memories to last a lifetime.

{2012} "What __________ looks like"

What brothers look like (sometimes).  This morning as Canyon struggled to get his tie just right, Ian jumped in behind him to lend a helping hand.  Luckily my camera was close by and I was able to capture this moment - more for me than for them!  It isn't every day that I see this kind of affection between the two of them being offered and received in such a thoughtful, understanding way.

{2012} "What __________ looks like"

What a snow day through her eyes looks like!  This is the whole pupose of my theme for the year - to get my camera out more often for times like this.  When I told the kids I wanted to take some pictures today, Megan jumped at the chance to wear her frog hat and run through the snow!  No one else made a peep!  I love her zest for life, and the joy she finds in simple things that I take for granted every day.

{2012} "What __________ looks like"

I've spent a lot of time considering things I want to work on this year in photography!  I have been inspired by so many other photographers who are sharing images in a more personal and meaningful way.  For me, this means sharing more of who I am - a wife and mother first & photographer second.   In 2012 I plan to photograph more of my daily life and share it here more often.  This will be a challenge for me because I am, by nature and by life experiences, a quiet & guarded person.  It means I'll have to share more of my personal thoughts and feelings in a more open and vulnerable way.  It means I will have to work hard to create images of my daily life that will be inspiring and fun to look at.  Fortunately my daily life involves 5 very important people who I need to photograph more often too!

I found my "theme" for 2012, "What__________looks like," on another photography blog - with the plan to use photographs of my daily life to fill in the blank. Today I photographed "What every day looks like."  These are my favorite shoes - my UGG's.  I wear them every single day!  They are like comfort food for my feet!   Thanks to my mother-in-law I receive a new pair for Christmas every year.  I usually leave them in the box for a few months and break them out in late spring, but I couldn't resist these cute, gray, cable knit ones this year!  They keep my feet warm in the winter when it's cold outside, and warm in the summer when it's cold inside!

After reading this post, and looking at the image, I'm feeling a little lame. I hope you'll humor me as I go along and maybe the words and images will help you feel a greater connection to me and my family!

I was actually motivated to take a picture of my shoes by a post on the Time Out For Women site.  These shoes remind me how much I love being at home.  (Although I've been known to wear them to the grocery store).  I am so thankful to be a "stay at home" mom.  There isn't any where else in the world I'd rather be than at home! And when I'm at home it's a guarantee that I'm wearing my UGG's!

2011 at a glance...

Here is my year 2011 at a glance - or maybe I should say glimpse!  I literally have hundreds of pictures to choose from for last year, and that doesn't include any images from photo sessions with some amazing people!  All of these are of my family, and I wish I had more!  I think that will be one of my resolutions for 2012 - capturing more every day images of my own family.  I think I have a fun way to do this, but I'll save that for another post!

Karl & Julie...time and all eternity!

Well...I survived my first wedding!  It was a beautiful December day in Logan!  We couldn't have asked for better weather.  These first few are of the temple that I took while the Bride & Groom were inside.  I was so excited because I had perfect diffused light!

Unfortunately it didn't last, and right as Karl & Julie came out, the sun did too!  It actually worked out okay, and made for a beautiful blue sky!  I'm really torn between color and black and white, so I guess you'll get to see a little of both!

Here are just a few from the reception.  I have to say that I haven't mastered flash photography yet!  Maybe something to work on this year!  Congratulations to Karl & Julie, and thank you so much for the opportunity to photograph your wedding!
